Wes Brown, performing as SniperShot (or simply Snipes), has carved out a unique lane as a truly independent artist who finances his global travels and musical creations through smart real estate investments and a dedication to a DIY ethos. Here is a deep dive into his background, sound design, core discography, and lifestyle.
The Turning Point
Growing up in East Dallas near the White Rock Lake area, Wes Brown was highly athletic, earning All-State honors in football and soccer. Though he went to St. Edward’s University in Austin for business, his path changed entirely in 2005. On his way home for Christmas, he survived a near-fatal car crash. Facing his own mortality shifted his priorities, driving him to dedicate his life fully to freestyle rapping, writing, and music production. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, which later fueled his entrepreneurial independence.
Musical Style & Sound Design
SniperShot refers to his sound as a high-energy, high-vibrational blend of classic hip-hop storytelling, conscious rap, and electronic dance music. • The Blueprint: His foundation is rooted in 90s boom-bap (he attributes his love for the genre to discovering Gang Starr’s album Hard to Earn in the 5th grade). • The Evolution: Over the course of 20 independent projects, he has evolved from localized mixtape styles to complex electronic fusion and deeply vulnerable, personal lyricism.
Deep-Dive Discography
• True Story (Album): A deeply narrative album reflecting heavily on his childhood in East Dallas, family trials (such as dealing with his father's battle with Alzheimer's), and his worldview. Tracks like "Guru" pay direct homage to hip-hop pioneers, while "Feelin' Nice" captures a bright, old-school West Coast vibe localized around White Rock Lake. • Uplifted (EP): Produced by Adam Obeid, this project leaned heavily into melodic and conscious themes, featuring underground favorites like "Juice Bars". • Walking Contradiction & Principle Patterns: Collaborative studio projects largely handled alongside underground producer M Slago, blending dark boom-bap rhythms with intricate multi-syllabic rhymes. • Whatever... (2024 EP with Maverick Lawson): A 5-track collaborative EP that became an underground staple, featuring high-energy tracks like "Judo", "Varp", and "Sunshine Fuck You!". • Type Shit (Upcoming 2027 LP): A full-length LP tracking his continuation with producer Maverick Lawson. To lock in and finish the final mixing, mastering, and music video shoots for this record, he recently sold his home base in Arkansas to return to the Dallas studio scene.
Global Lifestyle & "Rapper At Sea"
SniperShot is a self-described "inner and outer explorer" whose lifestyle directly funds and informs his music. • Real Estate & Permaculture: He uses real estate investments to maintain financial freedom, allowing him to travel the world while creating YouTube content centered around teaching others how to invest, travel, and grow their own food. • The Global Nomad: He has lived and worked in Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Guatemala (where he built homes for a non-profit organization). • Rapper At Sea: His ongoing travel and vlog series where he takes his music completely mobile. He famously tracked a full, unreleased feel-good album strictly utilizing a mobile laptop, ukulele, and guitar setup while camping out off the grid in Chiapas, Mexico.
